Edith G. Jones

Edith Gee Jones

Edith Gee Jones, a native of Baltimore, Maryland, adopted New Orleans as a young adult and has resided here ever since.  With a bachelor
degree from Howard University and Masters in Education from Loyola University – New Orleans, she has worked in both the private and non-
profit sectors.  For the majority of her career, Jones’ focus has been on job creation, education, employment and small business

Mrs. Jones served as the first female President and CEO of the Urban League of Greater New Orleans.  Under her leadership, the agency
began the Women’s Business Development Center, offered tutorial services to low performing students in public schools, continued job
training and employment services and purchased the first permanent home for the Agency in its 62 year history.

At IBM, Edith worked as a Systems Engineer and was the first Director of Open Access.  At Harrah’s Casino implementing the Casino’s plan
to involve minorities and women in employment, construction and procurement.   For many years, she served with distinction as the Director
of Career Planning and Placement at Loyola University, assisting thousands of students in pursuing post-college employment.

She is the recipient of numerous achievement awards, having served on several non-profit boards including Agenda for Children, the New
Orleans Science and Math High School, and the Gulf South Minority Development Council.  Mrs. Jones is active with the Crescent City Links
and the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority where her leadership has helped to gain state and national awards and recognitions.  She serves on the
Board of Trustees at Central St. Matthew United Church of Christ and as a Block Captain for her Lake Forest Estates Neighborhood
Association.  She is married to Attorney Ernest Jones; has one son, Everett (Hanaiya) and one grand-daughter, Nadia.
